The Phenom employee portal allows employees to apply for open positions, take on growth opportunities, learn new skills, and to contribute to your employer brand. Plus, the portal encourages candidates to find their next role within your company by suggesting personalized job recommendations. For me, the internal mobility feature helped me shift gears at Phenom, and put the knowledge I gained here to good use.

My Story

In Summer 2019, I found myself fresh out of college with the world at my fingertips, and searching for my first full-time job.

After countless job applications and scheduled interviews, I reached out to an alumnus who I rowed with on Susquehanna University’s crew team. He said he was very passionate about his current role and spoke highly about the company — which ended up being Phenom! He encouraged me to apply to an entry level sales role at Phenom, and shortly after, I was quickly moving through Phenom's interview process.

It was hands down the best experience I had since beginning to apply for jobs. Starting with the application process itself, I interacted with Phenom’s chatbot on the career site to apply for the sales position. The whole process took less than five minutes! I received email notifications with updates on where I stood throughout the interview process and even received scheduling information for the interview via SMS.

From the beginning of the interview process, the hiring team discussed the growth potential at the company and how so many before me had advanced their careers with Phenom. My alum friend had also shared his experience of transitioning into a newly created role at Phenom from the entry-level sales position wherein he began. The opportunity and excitement was growing for me. I was ecstatic when I received the job offer and eager to begin my career at Phenom!

I Got the Gig!

I immersed myself into the sales role by furiously taking notes, shadowing meetings, completing training, and participating in role plays. In a short time, I became more confident in developing sales skills such as leading meetings and qualifying leads. Additionally, I became more knowledgeable about the Phenom platform and kept up-to-date on product enhancements to excel in my role.

During my time as an SDR, my sales manager, Samantha Moeder and I talked regularly about where I saw myself beyond this role. Toward the end of the summer when the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic seemed to be turning around (or so we thought), Samantha approached me with a job opening for a newly created role as customer success specialist. She encouraged me to apply through our internal mobility portal and would help me prepare for my interview.

Leveraging Phenom’s Employee Experience

Phenom Internal Mobility made it easy to apply for the open position. I could assess the job description and evaluate my skills compared to the new role's requirements. Through our integration with our learning management system, I was able to view course recommendations to improve my skill set.

This specific job did not work out; however, a newly created role within the Human Resources department was shortly after brought to my attention. After reading over the job description and initial interviews with the HR Team, I decided it was a nice match for my skill set and career interests. In a matter of weeks I transitioned from my sales role to the HR team as a Talent Experience Specialist working on some of the most innovative human capital projects in the HR Tech industry. The skills I crafted like time management, organization, interpersonal communication, and attention to detail in the SDR role set me up for great success in my new position. Not to mention, the great deal of industry and product knowledge I immersed myself in as an SDR allowed for a smooth transition as well.

Shifting gears from pitching Phenom’s Talent Experience Management system, I'm actually working in it daily, using the valuable product knowledge I'd gained. Equipped with a strong understanding of the Phenom platform, mastering its use came quickly. Now just three months in my new role, I’m learning so much more about the impact our platform has in enhancing the holistic talent experience for candidates, employees, recruiters, and managers.

I have a lot more to learn about the HR world, but I am ecstatic to continue my career growth and development at Phenom. My new manager, Keca Ward, has made this transition seamless and is always asking what I want to learn next to advance my career.
